This course is for students who already know how to play chess, but want to improve their skills. Students taking this course should know how the pieces move, what "checkmate" and "stalemate" are, what "castling" is and when you can do it, and what it means to "promote" a pawn. This program is also suitable for more serious players who want to play tournament chess and be involved on a Hilltop team in tournaments. We will study specific topics each week in an effort to improve all aspects of the students' games - the opening, tactics, strategy and end game.
