Students Beautify Ryker Lake
Students, parents and faculty and staff at Hilltop Country Day School spent part of a recent Saturday morning picking up litter at Ryker Lake in Sparta.
This project, led by the school’s fourth graders, is part of a larger school wide initiative to do one off-campus community service project a month.
“I hope to teach and model for our kids the importance of giving back and service to others,” said Head of School Kevin Folan. “I also hope to engage more directly with our surrounding communities and create a greater sense of community and camaraderie here at Hilltop.”
Hilltop has always had a longstanding tradition of service to the community through food drives, collections, and fundraisers. But, under Folan’s direction, Hilltop is doing more in the way of community service versus outreach.
Once back on campus, the fourth grader also analyzed the garbage that was collected to generate a frequency chart to map the different categories of trash.
