Seventh Grader Wins School National Geographic Society Bee

Seventh-grader Max Mazzatta was crowned school champion during the 30th annual National Geo Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society.

Max, joined by classmates Benjamin Janiszewski ’21, Ryan Arapkiles ’21, Robin Guarda ’20, Evan Coletta ’20, Camryn Giessuebel ’19, Amalia Scripsick ’18 and Lindsey White ’18, answered challenging questions, naming rivers, cities, and countries throughout the world. Max correctly answered ” Bering Sea” after a three-round tie-breaker challenge with eighth-grader Lindsey White.

Max will advance to the next level, a qualifying test to determine state winners. If Max is one of the 100 top scorers in the state test, he will go on to represent Hilltop at the state level in April, edging closer to the National competition and the possibility of a $50,000 college scholarship.

Good luck, Max!
