ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Hilltop’s Enrichment Programs are designed to provide students with interesting and innovative educational experiences between the hours of 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Our programs are open to public school students and the home schooling community. 

CURRENT OFFERINGS

Please note that class sizes are limited; therefore, please register online below or email lmcgee@hilltopcds.org. Please register promptly as many classes fill up quickly. You will be contacted only if the class limit has already been met, or if we do not have sufficient enrollment to run the program.  Please remember that classes do not meet when school is not in session.

Mondays

Outdoor Explorers

Ages: Prekindergarten – Grade 2
Dates: April 3- April 24
Cost: $80/Four Sessions
Time: 3 – 4 p.m.
Instructor: Jane Chamberlain/Hilltop Teacher; Lynn Rogers/Hilltop Nurse

Walk, hike, explore, discover the natural world, seek adventures, and play – all while being out in the fresh air.

 

Tuesdays

 

Fun With Food

Ages: Preschool – Grade 2
Dates: April 4- April 25
Cost: $80/ Four Sessions
Time: 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Instructor: Chris DeStefano, Hilltop Teacher

During this time the children will enjoy a hands-on fun food experience. They will work cooperatively in small groups and build self-confidence as they successfully prepare various recipes.

Karate

Ages: Kindergarten – Grade 8
Dates: April 4 – May 23
Cost: $220/Eight Sessions
Time: 3 – 5 p.m.
Instructor: Judie Wallen, North-East Martial Arts

At North-East Martial Arts Fitness & Fun, they teach the art of Isshin-Ryu (ish-shin-roo) Karate developed on the island of Okinawa. Their Main Goal is to teach the three R’s: Respect for Oneself, Responsibility for One’s Actions, and Respect for Others. Other program goals are Physical Fitness, Life Skills and Self-Defense. To achieve success in any sport, endeavor or task, we must maintain a high level of personal self-confidence. Martial arts training develops mental strength, physical strength, stronger focus skills, thus, giving the student a more harmonious attitude in their approach to life.

Our program, includes 4 Sessions (8 weeks in duration), with each Session meeting weekly, on Tuesday. Mrs. Wallen will schedule make-up classes on Thursday’s on a TBA basis. The classes are divided into Beginner and Advanced. You must be invited by Mrs. Wallen to attend the Advanced Class. Your child’s participation in Karate will automatically be renewed for the next session, unless you notify Mrs. Wallen at the end of the session that you do not want your child to participate.

All students are required to purchase and wear a uniform (gi) from North-East Martial Arts. As a student progresses in their karate training, they will be required to purchase appropriate equipment directly from Mrs. Wallen. Parents will be notified of the cost of all equipment and must authorize all purchases, prior to equipment being given to your child.

Cross Country Club

Ages: Grades 3-8
Dates: April 4 – April 20 (Rev It Up 5K: April 22)
Cost: $60/Six Sessions (5 Students are needed to run the program)
Time: 3 – 4 p.m.
Instructor: Jane Chamberlain/Hilltop Teacher

The Hilltop Cross Country Club is a 6 session program for all girls and boys grades 3-8 that teaches the fundamentals of distance running with weekly challenges and an opportunity to run together as a club in the annual Rev it Up 5K. The club will focus on proper stretching and forms as well as improving strength and endurance.

Additional fees – Rev it Up 5K registration

Wednesdays

 

Kiddie Soccer

Ages: 3.5 – 6
Dates: April 12 – May 31
Cost: 8 Sessions, $130
Time: 3:15 – 4:15 p.m.
Instructor: Kiddie Soccer Coach

Kiddie Soccer is a fun-filled and age appropriate soccer program for 3 1/2, 4, 5, and 6 year old boys and girls.   Register www.kiddiesoccer.com Session Code is 55DCH.

Make and Take Makerspace

Ages: Preschool – Grade 8
Dates: April 5- May 31
Cost: $15 per session
Time: 3:15 – 5 p.m.
Instructor: Laura McGee/Assistant Head of School

Learn a new craft, socialize and have fun with perler beads, loom weaving, french knitting, arm knitting, hand knitting, finger knitting, no-sew crafts, hand sewing, machine sewing, cardboard building, rainbow loom, origami and 3D printing.

Thursdays

Star Wars XWing Campaign

Ages: Grades 5- 8
Dates: April 6- May 25
Cost: $120/Eight Sessions
Time: 3 – 4 p.m.
Instructor: Sean Thorne

Come join fellow Hilltop Hawks who have jumped on the new and fast growing Star Wars miniatures game, X Wing as they choose a faction and battle it out in the star sectors of the Galactic Empire. You can choose to fly ships from the Rebels, the Empire or even ships from the nefarious pirate factions that roam the edges of civilization. Theme music and miniatures provided.

Fridays

Dash Dot Robotics

Ages: Kindergarten – Grade 2
Dates: April 7 – June 2
Cost: $165/Eight Sessions
Time: 3:15 – 4 p.m.
Instructor: Laura McGee/Assistant Head of School

Students will use coding to direct and program these smart robots. The robots features include lights, sounds, motion and sensors. Dash & Dot are real robots that teach kids to code while they play. Using apps and a tablet the students will learn to code while they make Dash sing, dance and navigate all around a series of challenges. Sensors on the robot mean they react to the environment around them, including the students. This class will prepare students for the Dash & Dot Wonder League Robotics Competition in the Fall of 2017.

World of Pokemon Continues

Ages: Kindergarten – Grade 3
Dates: April 7 – May 5
Cost: $60/Four Sessions
Time: 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Discover the world of Pokemon through crafts, games, scavenger hunts and more.

Friday Board Games

Ages: Grades 5-8
Dates: April 7 – May 5
Cost: $60/Four Sessions
Time: 3 – 4 p.m.

As a way to relax at the end of the week and socialize with fellow Hilltop Hawks, we are pleased to offer a ‘Game Board Social’ every Friday from 3-4:30, hosted by Upper School tutor Mr, Thorne. Students will be offered a variety of Euro games and new cooperative games to pit their wits and skill against one another or just to beat the clock. Some examples include, Pandemic, Revolution, Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan to name a few. Light refreshments will be offered.
